A Beautiful Day
Yellowstone Academy’s annual Breakfast, chaired by Leslie and Randy Newcomer, was truly a Beautiful Day for our students. This past Thursday, October 27 a capacity crowd gathered in fellowship to support the great work Yellowstone is doing in the Third Ward.
As a special highlight and testament to Yellowstone's transformative impact, guests heard from Lyneisha Jordan, one of Yellowstone's original four year olds and a graduate from Yellowstone's first class. Lyneshia, now a freshman majoring in biology at Texas A&M Corpus Christi, shared how Yellowstone prepared her for her future and continues to support her journey.
Always a highly anticipated feature of the Breakfast, the student choir treated guests to their powerful rendition of “Blessed in the City”. And finally, executive director, Ryan Dolibois, shared with supporters Yellowstone’s ambitious strategic growth plan to increase its impact in Houston.
Yellowstone's Visionary Plan to Triple in Size
Annually, Yellowstone’s wait list exceeds 500 students demonstrating the incredible demand for high quality educational options in the Third Ward. These families are eager to access academic excellence for their children--the Board has approved an ambitious growth plan to meet this need.
As Ryan outlined at the Breakfast, Yellowstone Academy will continue operating as a private, faith-based school for students in pre-K through 4th grade just as it has done for nearly 15 years. To increase the number of students served, a newly-formed sister organization, the Yellowstone Education Foundation, is in the process of applying for a charter to create Yellowstone College Prep, a 5th-12th grade open-enrollment, tuition-free public charter school.
This new model could nearly triple the number of students served and will complete future students’ educational path to becoming college and career ready leaders. If the charter is approved, the school would open in August 2018. As a complement to the school’s growth, Yellowstone Academy ultimately plans to build an on-campus dormitory that will support student learning through after-school activities, residential life programs, and community activities.
With this ambitious growth plan, Yellowstone will answer the call to serve more children, ensuring they have a high quality education and the promise of a bright future.
