Welcome! Thank you for visiting the web page for Miles for Meals, a 2,181 mile hike from Georgia to Maine to benefit Yellowstone Academy! In February of 2012, I will embark on a five month hike from Springer Mountain, Georgia, to Mount Katahdin, Maine along the entirety of the Appalachian Trail to benefit Yellowstone Academy. Yellowstone was created in July 2001, for the purpose of establishing a Christian private school exclusively serving low-income children in Houston's inner city. Yellowstone was founded on the belief that, through quality education, children living in poverty can transcend their circumstances and grow up to become responsible, productive adults. The school exclusively serves children from very low-income families with a program that provides and nurtures the educational, spiritual, social, and practical resources that every person needs to succeed in life. Listed below is the profile of the 320 students and their...

Roneisha is a second year Breakthrough Houston student and current eighth grader at Yellowstone Academy. Roneisha's application for the Young Scholars program was supported by a partnership between the JKCF and the Breakthrough Collaborative. All JCKF Young Scholars have demonstrated excellence in academic endeavors and extracurricular activities, a strong will to succeed, and financial need. The Young Scholars program was founded on the idea that if you give high-achieving students with financial need the guidance and resources necessary for them to excel during high school, college, and beyond, their greatness will emerge. The program provides the most personalized, generous scholarship...

A post from our photography teacher, Chris Bailey:

I've got a new class this school year with 7 new students, and they are eager to learn about photography. Before they left for Fall break, I wanted to introduce some concepts dealing with shutter speed, but I didn't want to get into too much, as long breaks can lead to forgetfulness. So, I came up with an idea to take some spooky Halloween photos of our class, and use slow shutter speeds and double exposures to achieve ghostly effects! All of the students will return to school on Halloween day, so they will come back to Photo Club's terrifying 1st show of the year! -Chris Bailey
